Woburn Get Bouncing....

This weeks meeting was the girls surprise for boys. Being as we were mean to them last year, we decided we would organise a nice meeting this week and we took them to Bounce- an indoor trampolining centre. We had 29 people at the meeting- a potential record for the club!!!

It was a fantastic meeting, and by some miracle no one injured themselves. Here is a little video of some of the magical moments...

Lets get tugging....

On a cold evening in February, Woburn took to the ropes with an introduction to tug of war meeting. Even though it was bitterly cold, members of the club really enjoyed TOW, especially the juniors who have not yet pulled for the club.

Training will soon commence for rally, bring on the late nights, aching arms and legs, bizarre tugging faces and the crazy pre tug screams!

Woburn heading to the Olympics....

On Saturday 7th February, Bedfordshire Young Farmers hosted the annual swimming competition. This is a competition Woburn used to excel in, mainly due to the number of intermediate and senior male members who were keen to get their speedos on to impress the ladies with their swimming abilities.

However, this year was different and four junior members, Ben, Tom, Harriet and Laura, and the chairman Clare, made up the team. To our luck, it turned out Tom, after a near death swimming experience when younger, was a lifeguard and a very good swimmer at that, which helped woburn to victory!!!! Watch this space, I think we may get the call up for the Olympic team!

Thank you to everyone who came and supported, once again Woburn had the most fans out watching on the balcony. And thanks to the brave members who competed!

Woburn get charitable...

Throughout 2014 and again this year, Woburn have been supporting Diabetes UK in memory of Neil Shayler. Neil always had Woburn Young Farmers in mind, and helped the club greatly.

In November, Woburn held a Harvest Quiz at Millbrook Village Hall, which was very well attended. After a quick trip to the local supermarket to purchase more alcoholic beverages for the evening’s activities, the quiz was ready to commence. The questions tested brains both young and old, in a variety of categories thanks to the Duo Quiz Masters, John and Amanda Parrish. The famous “Snow Day Sweep” and raffle were again very popular with prizes such as a Meal at Paris House to a Family Day out to Woburn Safari Park. In order for the competitors to re-charge their batteries, there was a delicious buffet providing cheese, pork pies and other small nibbles thanks to The Cotswold Cheese Company.

As the December evenings got shorter (but not much colder), Woburn organised Carol singing around the county and a Club Christmas Meal at the Red Lion in Milton Bryant, to get into the Christmas Spirit! This was a more relaxed affair, with a large buffet (provided by the pub) and a live brass band. We were fortunate enough to have 2 Woburn members perform - really bringing the club together! Wherever you were in the county on the Friday before Christmas, I am almost certain you would have heard the distant “12 Days of Christmas” song twice. For both of these events, it was great to see so many Woburn members, parents and Advisory as well as other Beds Young Farmers participating.

In total, after all the fun and excitement, Woburn has raised nearly £1000 for Diabetes UK. We know this money will be greatly received by our chosen charity, and Woburn is hoping to hold more events in the coming year, so watch this space!

Bangers, Bangs and creepy pumpkins..

On Bonfire night, our advisory hosted a fireworks, dinner and games evening for the club, hosted at Park Farm. Families and friends were invited and we had a great turn out of nearly 60 people.

Some of our older and not mature members of the club put on a fantastic fireworks display- one that could rival Ampthill's annual event. Amazingly there were no casualties- just a few added bird scarers to ensure the bangs were loud enough!

We were provided with a lovely warm meal of bangers and mash- which was needed as it was one of the coldest nights of the year.

The club participated in pumpkin carving, apple bobbing and flour hunting games- all of which were great fun.

A big thank you to the advisory for their continues support and help, and for hosting such an enjoyable meeting- which I am sure may become and annual thing :)

Woburn are quiz champions again....

County hosted their annual County Quiz at Biggleswade football club on the 29th October, a sought after competition which counts towards to the competition cup presented at the AGM. As per usual, Woburn were keen to win this, and entered a Junior team, a Senior team and a Social team- made up of Rex (a past chairman) and a giggling group of girlies.

After 10 rounds including music, sport, disgusting salty chocolate and the weekly news, Woburn won the Senior competition and the juniors came second in the junior competition. A fantastic result for both teams in what is a very exciting and competitive year for the club.

Thanks to Matt, Oonagh and Dave for organising the quiz and helping on the night!

Nice Shoes.....

On the 22nd October, Woburn had their weekly meeting, in which we learnt to make horseshoes. As it turns out, this was not as easy as Jay the farrier made it out to be. After a lot of miss hits, sparks flying, family rivalry and bizarre questions, woburn had made some horseshoes. A great and really interesting meeting, with thanks to Jay for his demonstrations and tuition!
